Steven J. Loewenthal has repeatedly been rated a “Super Lawyer” and “Lead Counsel,” named as a “Top Lawyer” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine, and, based upon several of his outstanding results, has been accepted as a member of the Million and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum.

Steve is Ivy-league trained (Columbia University J.D.) and a New Jersey Supreme Court­ Certified Civil Trial Attorney, a distinction held by less than 2% of lawyers in the State. He joined Lew Stein and Bob Kobin in Nusbaum Stein’s litigation practice in January 2007, after practicing in New York for ten years, where he began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Rockland County prosecuting crime, completed a two-year federal clerkship with the United States Magistrate Judge Frank Maas of the Southern District of New York, and most recently was a partner at Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach, LLP, a firm specializing in defending medical malpractice and products liability lawsuits.

During his five years at Heidell, Pittoni, he gained extensive litigation experience defending physicians, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies. Since joining Nusbaum Stein in 2007, Steve has switched sides and, for over a decade, has focused his practice on representing people who have been injured in accidents caused by automobile negligence, hazardous conditions on premises, workplace hazards, defective consumer products, industrial equipment, and professional malpractice. His extensive experience defending lawsuits during his time at Heidell Pittoni in New York provides him with a unique understanding of what the defense strategy is against his clients’ claims. Steve graduated from Binghamton University in 1992 with Phi Beta Kappa honors and received his law degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1996. He is admitted to the New York Bar, New Jersey Bar, United States District Court of New Jersey, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Steve has been actively involved in the Morris County Bar Association for over a decade, serving as a Trustee, Officer, and culminating in serving as President of the Association in 2023. He is also a long-standing member of the New Jersey Association for Justice, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice. He has given several lectures on litigation techniques for each of these organizations.
