Premises liability: Several injured following platform collapse

Parents in New Jersey and across the country often enjoy taking their children to businesses that keep them engaged while offering them physical activity. However, when parents make the decision to take their children to these businesses, they do so with the expectation that the structures in the business are safe for all. Unfortunately, a recent platform collapse at a parkour gym located in another state could ultimately result in a premises liability lawsuit.

The incident happened at approximately 8 p.m. on a day in November. According to reports, Several people -- both adults and children -- were gathered on a platform, measuring 10 feet by 30 feet, that was raised 10 feet above the ground. Unfortunately, the platform reportedly collapsed, landing on several people who were underneath.

As a result, 21 children and two adults were transported to the hospital. Four of the children reportedly suffered major injuries, including injuries to their spine. Firefighters were working to understand why the platform collapsed, including whether it was built to hold the weight of people or if there were too many people on it.

Unfortunately, several families are now left dealing with injuries that may have been completely preventable. Those victims who suffered spinal injuries may have a long recovery ahead of them and may never be able to fully recover. To help ensure that they are able to receive the medical care they need and are able to cope with lost wages, many families in New Jersey who are suffering as a result of a negligent property owner or business manager often choose to file a premises liability lawsuit. An attorney with experience with such cases can help victims explore their legal options and take appropriate action.
