Wrongful death: Police investigate fatal New Jersey crash

It is easy to do -- a slight miscalculation or moment of distraction can easily result in tragedy. Because of how easy and quick a car accident can happen, drivers must remain vigilant at all times. Unfortunately, police in New Jersey are investigating a recent crash that could potentially result in a wrongful death lawsuit.

The incident happened one evening on a day in mid-March. According to reports, two elderly women were traveling in a southbound vehicle. When the 74-year-old driver reportedly attempted a left turn, their vehicle is said to have been struck by a van driven by a 66-year-old man.

The passenger in the first vehicle, a 73-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital by helicopter. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead when she arrived. The driver was also transported by helicopter where she is listed in critical condition. The driver and seven passengers in the van suffered minor injuries.

At this time, no charges have been filed, but the investigation into the New Jersey incident continues. Unfortunately, the family of the deceased woman may struggle both emotionally and financially as a result of her death. To help cope with funeral costs and other expenses that stem from the unexpected death of a loved due to another's negligence, many grieving family members choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit. If it can be proved that negligent actions caused a fatality, surviving family members could receive an award of damages, allowing them to focus on their recovery rather than how they will meet their financial obligations.
