Medical malpractice: Elderly woman abused in nursing home

When most people in New Jersey think of their aging loved ones, they think of them with love, and they have the desire to protect them and ensure that their physical and emotional needs are met throughout their lives. For some families, this means coming to the realization that they are no longer able to provide appropriate care. Once this is made, families often make the decision to place their loved ones in a nursing home facility. Unfortunately, residents of these facilities can often become victims of medical malpractice in the form of abuse or negligence.

One family in another state claims that they are still reeling from the discovery of evidence that they believe proves that their 93-year-old loved one -- suffering from dementia -- was being abused by two employees of nursing home in which she lived. According to reports, the family set up a nanny cam in the woman's room. News reports indicate that the camera captured two workers pulling the woman by her hair.

A representative for the nursing home claims that immediate action was taken and the two employees were terminated. The workers now face criminal charges. The woman now resides at a different facility.

Abuse can often be difficult for nursing home residents to overcome, both emotionally and physically. In order to ensure that all responsible parties are held accountable for such treatment, many people in New Jersey choose to pursue damages in a civil court. Civil action could not only result in an award of damages but could also prompt facilities to take measures that ensure all patients are better protected from all forms of medical malpractice in the future.
