Motor vehicle accidents: Woman killed in New Jersey crosswalk

Many colleges and universities have a great deal of pedestrians. As a result, drivers in the area must ensure that they are extremely careful as motor vehicle accidents can have serious consequences. Unfortunately, police in New Jersey claim that a young woman was recently killed as she attempted to cross the street near Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The 27-year-old victim was reportedly a recent graduate of the school but is rumored to have been participating in additional training. Police claim that she was struck by a vehicle driven by a 49-year-old man while she was in a crosswalk. She was transported to the hospital but passed away from the injuries she suffered in the accident.

Reports indicate that the driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with the investigation into the accident. However, it is believed that the driver was distracted at the time. Police cited him for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, having an obstructed view and careless driving.

No family expects to learn that their loved one was killed in a preventable accident. In addition to being emotionally unprepared, many in New Jersey who have lost loved ones in motor vehicle accidents are also financially unprepared. Funeral costs and medical expenses generated by an accident such as this can quickly become overwhelming, prompting many to research the options in regards to civil litigation that could ultimately result in recompense. An attorney with experience with such cases can help surviving loved ones better understand these options and choose the most appropriate course of action.
