Merging causes numerous car accidents on the Turnpike

One of the most dangerous times for any driver on the New Jersey Turnpike is when a vehicle is merging into traffic. If not done correctly, the results can be devastating. Many people suffer serious injuries or die in the numerous car accidents caused by drivers who failed to properly merge onto the turnpike.

For instance, troopers with the New Jersey State Police recently responded to a crash on the Turnpike involving two vehicles. Preliminary reports noted that as a pickup truck began to merge onto the roadway, the 21-year-old driver failed to yield the right-of-way to another vehicle. As the pickup moved into the left hand lane, it crashed into the other vehicle. The impact pushed that vehicle into the concrete median.

A 91-year-old man sitting in the backseat was dead by the time emergency responders got to him. The front seat passenger, a 67-year-old woman, and the 61-year-old driver in that same vehicle suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital in Delaware. The driver of the pickup was also injured. The investigation is ongoing, and it is not known what charges, if any, officials are contemplating.

In the meantime, the family of the deceased passenger and the other injured victims may file civil claims against the driver of the pickup truck. More than likely, the surviving victim are sustaining financial losses that are common to serious and/or fatal car accidents. Successfully establishing negligence on the part of the pickup truck driver could result in a monetary judgment that could defray the impact of any monetary losses.
