Car accidents on the New Jersey Turnpike can be deadly

Thousands of people travel the New Jersey Turnpike each day.  With that many drivers on one road, it is no surprise that numerous car accidents take place on the turnpike over the course of the year.  Some of those crashes only result in minor injuries, but there are a number of the that result in serious injury or even death.

Recently, a crash between a minivan and an 18-wheeler added one more death and three more seriously injured people to the state's accident statistics.  As the four people occupying the minivan traveled north on the New Jersey Turnpike, something caused the driver to either slow down or possibly stop in the roadway.  What that might have been is one of the questions the investigation may answer.

It is believed that an 18-wheeler traveling in the same direction may have been changing lanes when it slammed into the back of the minivan.  The driver and the other adult in the vehicle both suffered major injuries and are currently listed in critical condition at an area hospital.  The 12-year-old passenger was also injured, but the preteen's condition is not known.  Sadly, the last occupant of the vehicle, a 15-year-old, died at the scene.

The injured parties and the family of the deceased teenager are surely incurring significant expenses as a result of this tragedy.  They may exercise their rights to file civil actions seeking monetary damages that could help defray those costs.  As is the case in other car accidents involving semi-trucks, the truck driver and his employer may both be held liable for those damages if it is successfully proved that the truck driver was negligent in causing or contributing to the tragic rear-end crash.
