Seemingly minor injuries from car accidents not always minor

Many people suffer injuries they believe to be minor only to find out later that their condition is more serious than they thought. This is true under many different types of circumstances, including car accidents. A New Jersey woman who suffered seemingly minor injuries in a wreck now claims her injuries were worse than at first thought.

In April 2012, a police car hit the woman's vehicle. Evidence suggests that the officer behind the wheel was on her cell phone when she ran a red light and crashed into the woman's vehicle. The victim claims the police car did not have its lights or sirens on at the time of the accident.

The impact shoved the victim's car off the road and into a tree. The police department that the officer works for claims the officer was in pursuit of an unidentified vehicle. The department also alleges that the injuries the woman suffered in the crash were only minor. However, the woman claims to still be in pain and has limitations. She says she requires constant medical care that will continue into the future.

When it comes to injuries suffered in car accidents, it is not always easy to predict how serious they may be in the immediate aftermath of a crash. A New Jersey court will not only need to determine whether the police officer was negligent, but also if the woman's injuries are as serious now as she claims and were caused by the accident. If the victim proves her case to the court, she may be awarded damages that could cover her continuing need for medical care.
